Plantar Fasciitis

Using the power of innovative science and modern technology, Dr SW Clinic can help you live your best pain-free life without the need for invasive surgery.

Plantar fasciitis is a common and painful condition that affects the plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs along the bottom of the foot, connecting the heel bone to the toes.

This condition is characterised by inflammation, irritation, or micro-tears in the plantar fascia, leading to heel pain and discomfort.

Plantar fasciitis is especially common among people who are active or spend long hours on their feet.

At Dr SW Clinics, we can treat a range of pain conditions using Regenerative Medicine and pain-relieving injections. If you are tired of living with pain and looking for a non-surgical intervention, then Dr SW Clinics could help you get back to your optimal quality of life.

FAQ

What are the causes of Plantar Fasciitis?

  1. Overuse or Strain: Repetitive strain on the plantar fascia due to activities like running, walking long distances, or standing for extended periods can lead to inflammation and the development of plantar fasciitis.
  2. Foot Mechanics: Issues with foot mechanics, such as having flat feet (pronation) or high arches (supination), can increase the risk of developing plantar fasciitis. These conditions can alter the way forces are distributed on the plantar fascia.
  3. Age: Plantar fasciitis is more common in middle-aged individuals but can occur at any age.
  4. Improper Footwear: Wearing shoes with inadequate arch support, cushioning, or poor shock absorption can contribute to the development of plantar fasciitis.
  5. Obesity: Excess body weight can increase the load placed on the plantar fascia, increasing the risk of irritation and inflammation.

What are the symptoms of Plantar Fasciitis?

  • The hallmark symptom of plantar fasciitis is sharp or stabbing pain in the heel, particularly when taking the first steps in the morning or after periods of rest.
  • Pain may also occur after prolonged periods of standing, walking, or physical activity.
  • Pain typically subsides with activity but can return after periods of inactivity.
  • In some cases, the pain may radiate from the heel into the arch of the foot.

How do we diagnose at Dr SW Clinics

Depending on the joint issue you present with, there may be a couple of ways to diagnose your pain and thereby find you a lasting solution.

Firstly, you will have a telephone consultation with one of our highly trained patient advisors. This patient advisor will ask you a series of pre-assessment questions to better understand your personal needs.

You will then be invited for a consultation with one of our leading experts. To better gain an understanding of the problem, the Consultant may suggest you receive an x-ray or an MRI.

What is an x-ray?
A diagnostic test that can help identify what issues are causing the pain.

What is an MRI?
A diagnostic test using a magnetic field and radio waves for a detailed image of both joint and soft tissue.

What is an ultrasound?
Typically a handheld device that provides an on the spot image of the soft tissue.

Once we’ve received the results of your diagnostic tests, our team will be able to advise you on next best steps to get you pain free.
